Crunchy Cinnamon Granola

If you are looking for a simple granola recipe that is the perfect topping for yogurt, smoothie bowls or oatmeal, then this recipe is for you! It tastes great and only has a few main ingredients. It's a great recipe to play around with to make exactly the way you like since you can add or remove ingredients. I love pairing this granola with yogurt and fruit for a quick snack before lunch, or add a scoop of peanut butter and make it a breakfast!

This granola is packed full of dietary fibre from the oats and chia seeds, omega-3s from the hemp and chia seeds, healthy fats from the nuts and sunflower seeds, as well as vitamin B6, iron, and potassium from the raisins! Because all of these nutrients are packed into one bag of granola, adding a handful of granola to the top of your yogurt, oatmeal, or your favourite smoothie is a perfect way to get key nutrients into your diet!

In the directions below, I mention mixing the granola about every 10 minutes while it's baking in the oven. This will give a crumbly granola mixture. If you are looking for chunky granola, don't mix the granola while it's baking and ensure that it completely cools after you remove it from the even before breaking it into pieces.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of rolled oats

  • ¼ cup of hemp seeds

  • ¼ cup of chia seeds

  • ¼ cup of slivered almonds (whole or chopped works as well)

  • ¼ cup of sunflower seed kernels

  • ¼ cup of raisins

  • 1 tablespoon of cinnamon

  • ½ cup of maple syrup

  • Feel free to add any other nuts or seeds you like, keeping in mind that you may need to add some more maple syrup to keep the right consistency.

Recipe:

  1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.

  2. Place all dry ingredients in a large bowl and mix.

  3. Add maple syrup to the bowl and mix well. The mixture should be sticking together but still fairly dry.

  4. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread the mixture on the parchment in an even layer.

  5. Place in the oven for about 30 minutes or until the oats are starting to brown.

  6. Every 10 minutes or so, mix the granola in the oven.

  7. Remove from the oven once the oats have browned and let cool completely.

  8. Enjoy!
