Avocado Chocolate Mousse

This chocolate mousse only takes a few ingredients and a couple of minutes to whip together, but the flavour will blow you away. This completely vegan recipe tastes just like a gourmet restaurant chocolate mousse! The chocolaty flavour of the cacao powder mixed with the smooth and silky texture of the banana and avocados will leave you satisfied with the delicious taste of chocolate mousse in your mouth while offering lots of nutrients like fibre and potassium.

Avocado Chocolate Mousse

This is the perfect summer dessert because it is so light, fluffy, and creamy yet so rich and delicious - you will love it! I was inspired to make this recipe when a good friend of mine, who had been vegan for about a year, was craving the chocolate mousse my dad used to make us when we were younger. I wanted to surprise her with it for her birthday but needed a vegan recipe. So I decided to make a chocolate mousse out of avocados and bananas. Who would have thought that combination would work so well and make such a delicious dessert? I definitely didn’t! But it works so well and tastes so good; you would never guess this great dessert is loaded with nutrients and is healthy for you.

The rich and creamy flavour of this avocado chocolate mousse will satisfy your chocolate cravings while still providing healthy fats from the avocado and vitamin B-6, vitamin C, and potassium from both the bananas and avocados. For a chocolate dessert, it sure is loaded with nutrients. But don’t worry, you won’t be able to tell the difference between a restaurant-quality chocolate mousse and this creamy avocado mousse.

This recipe is made with ingredients you are likely to have in your pantry already, so it’s convenient to whip up a few hours before dinner and then enjoy a delicious and healthy treat when you are ready for dessert.

Although this mousse is excellent on its own, you can take it to the next level by adding some toppings. I recommend adding fresh fruit of your choice. Some ideas would be fresh strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, or blackberries. And if you like, you can top this dessert off with some whipped cream (try opting for a vegan whipped cream if you want to keep the entire recipe vegan) and sprinkling some vegan chocolate shreds on top. Talk about a showstopper dessert that will impress!

This recipe makes about 4 ¼ cup servings. The avocado mousse can be stored in the fridge for 2-4 days. But chances are it will be gone long before that because it is just that delicious!

Now let's get into the recipe; here is what you'll need:

Ingredients:

avocado and cocoa powder
  • Two medium-sized ripe avocados

  • One ripe banana

  • Two tablespoons of cocoa powder

  • ½ cup of pure maple syrup

  • ¼ cup of plant-based milk of your choice. (I used oat milk, but almond milk works as well - if you are not trying to keep the recipe vegan, you can use cow’s milk instead.)

Directions:

  1. Place avocados, banana, cocoa powder, maple syrup, and milk in a food processor.

  2. Blend ingredients until silky and smooth.

  3. Scoop mousse into individual serving bowls, cover, and refrigerate for at least two hours or overnight.

  4. Once refrigerated, add toppings and enjoy!

Add-ins:

  • Try adding chopped nuts to the mix for added crunch.
