Salmon Burgers with Greek Yogurt Dill Sauce

Wondering how to prepare salmon other than baking or grilling? Try this recipe!

Including salmon in your meals is a great way to get protein and omega-3 fatty acids in your diet. Omega 3 fatty acids are essential fatty acids, meaning that our bodies cannot make them ourselves and therefore we must get them through our diet. Additionally, fish contains other great nutrients such as magnesium, iron, and vitamin D. Health Canada recommends that adults and children ages 2 and older eat fish at least twice per week. Try our salmon burgers for a quick and easy lunch or dinner that everyone is sure to love!

Ingredients:

Burgers (serves 5)

  • 1 large can of salmon

  • 1 egg

  • ½ cup whole wheat panko breadcrumbs

  • ¼ cup chopped onion

  • salt and pepper to taste

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Dill Sauce

  • ¼ cup greek yogurt

  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise

  • 1 ½ tablespoon dried dill

  • juice of half a lemon

  • salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

  1. Drain salmon and reserve the liquid to add in case the mixture is too dry.

  2. Combine salmon, egg, chopped onion, breadcrumbs and salt and pepper in a medium bowl.

  3. Form into patties, adding the reserved salmon liquid as needed.

  4. Heat olive oil on a frying pan and add salmon patties. Cook until both sides are browned (flip gently!)

  5. While the salmon patties are cooking, create your dill sauce by mixing together greek yogurt, mayonnaise, dried dill, lemon juice, and salt and pepper in a small bowl.

  6. Once the salmon patties have cooked on both sides, drain them on a paper towel and serve warm on a whole wheat bun.

  7. Top with the dill sauce and your favourite veggies, and enjoy!
